In a bold move toward a greener future, the Welsh Government has unveiled plans to transform the roof of its Aberystwyth office into a hub of clean energy. A total of 164 solar panels are set to be installed on the building at Rhodfa Padarn, Llanbadarn, marking a major step in the nation’s sustainability journey.
The cutting-edge solar photovoltaic panels—proudly made in Wales—will cover three flat roof sections on the third, fourth, and fifth floors. Each sleek panel measures around 2 meters by 1 meter and will be mounted without drilling, using secure attachments to the building’s existing standing seams.
This isn’t a minor upgrade—it’s a large-scale project that exceeds the limits of permitted development, prompting the Welsh Government to submit a full planning application to Ceredigion County Council just last week.
If approved, the installation will not only reduce the building’s carbon footprint but also showcase the government's commitment to investing in homegrown technology and renewable energy.
